About Kristina Pedersen, MA, IBCLC

My path to becoming a lactation consultant began with my academic foundation in health promotion and international development. After earning my Master’s degree from the University of London, I discovered my calling in maternal and child health through my work with UNICEF and the World Health Organization.

In 2011, I founded Mamá Canguro, Paraguay’s first private lactation consulting practice, where I served thousands of families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. This experience taught me that every family’s journey is unique, and personalized support makes all the difference.

Since relocating to New York in 2022, I’ve continued my mission closer to home, working with families across Long Island and the NYC metropolitan area while maintaining my commitment to accessible, culturally sensitive care.

Kristina’s Past Clients Say…

Working with Kristina was truly an incredible experience. From the moment she arrived for my in-home visit, she created such a calm, supportive environment where I felt completely heard and at ease. She took the time to really listen to my concerns and needs, and approached everything with so much kindness, compassion, encouragement, and patience.

She offered thoughtful, practical tips and gently guided me through adjustments—like improving my feeding position. This made an immediate difference. But beyond the technical help, what meant the most was how she helped shift my mindset. She gave me the confidence to trust my instincts as a mom, to be more flexible, and to let go of the rigid expectations I was putting on myself.

By the end of our session, I felt more relaxed, more capable, and truly empowered. Kristina didn’t just support me with breastfeeding, she helped me reconnect with my confidence. I’m so grateful for her care and would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for compassionate, knowledgeable support.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kristina! She was so professional, kind, and compassionate from the moment we met. She really took the time to listen to all of my concerns and made me feel completely heard and supported. Her knowledge and attention to detail were amazing, and she quickly helped identify the issue and provide exactly the guidance I needed. I never felt rushed, and she was so patient and reassuring throughout the entire experience. Thanks to her help, we were able to solve the latching and feeding problem, and I have been feeling so much more confident and relieved. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for caring and knowledgeable lactation support!

Kristina came to help at exactly the right time. We were struggling with the transition of my milk coming in and getting our baby to latch, and she quickly helped us work through both challenges. She shared an incredible amount of knowledge while providing genuine care and support. Kristina also introduced different techniques to help me feel more relaxed and comfortable during feedings. We left feeling so much more confident, with practical skills we’ve already been using and that have made our lives noticeably easier. I truly couldn’t recommend her more!

Kristina has been tremendously helpful to me in my breastfeeding journey, particularly with learning how to properly latch my baby and getting into different positions to reduce strain on my body. We went from primarily pumping and bottle feeding to almost exclusively nursing right after her first visit – it was as if she had cast a spell on our baby. She’s been here for us whenever we’ve hit a road block, and I don’t know if I’d still be breastfeeding without her support. Thank you for everything, Kristina!

I recently had a postpartum follow-up visit with Kristina, and once again, she was an incredible source of support and reassurance. She immediately put me at ease and helped me develop a clear strategy for pumping and supporting my baby’s weight gain. Most importantly, she reassured me that the techniques and decisions I was making were the best fit for both me and my baby, which gave me so much confidence during an emotional and sometimes overwhelming time.

Kristina has been such a tremendous support throughout my postpartum journey. Her knowledge, compassion, and encouragement have made a meaningful difference. Having her as part of my care team and knowing I have someone I can turn to for guidance has been invaluable. I am so grateful for her support and cannot recommend her highly enough.

My birth experience and the first week of my baby’s life were somewhat traumatic, due to an unexpected C-section and nicu stay, which unfortunately also greatly impacted my ability to breastfeed. By the time I saw Kristina, I was about to give up not only with attempting to breastfeed but on pumping as well, and had resigned myself to formula (not wrong with that, but that was not my original goal). Kristina came to our home and immediately reassured me on so many levels. She completely got where I was coming from emotionally, put no pressure on me, and put both me and baby at ease. She was able to show me different positions, and helped my baby latch and feed beautifully. She helped me feel like I could still try and reach my goal of breastfeeding right when I was at my lowest and came up with a plan to help me reach that goal. I saw her when I was at my lowest post partum and she gave me such hope!
